Explore the Atlanta Beltline!
All photos from Atlanta Beltline Facebook Fan Page here
The Atlanta BeltLine is transforming the city with a combination of
rail, trail, greenspace, housing and art. It will ultimately connect 45
intown neighborhoods, provide first and last mile connectivity for
regional transportation initiatives, and put Atlanta on a path to 21st
century economic growth and sustainability. The beauty of the Atlanta
BeltLine is that it offers not only modern conveyances and exciting new
development, but it is a living, breathing part of our community; not
simply a means of getting somewhere, but a destination unto itself. It
offers a chance for Atlanta to redefine what it is to be a neighbor, to
be a community, to be a region, and to share all that it has to offer. (via beltline.org)

RIP Jack.....you will be missed
Our beloved Jack has passed on and we are all missing him like crazy. We believe that Jack had a wonderful and full life. He came to us as a stray and stayed as a member of the Highland Inn family. Thank you for all of your love and support during this difficult time.
This was given to us by a friend of The Highland Inn, Juan Montoya.
Thanks so much, we love it!

Good Morning from Jack!
Caught this photo of Jack this morning. He was trying to catch one of the fish in the pond moments after this was taken. He's been really active lately and seems to be feeling better.

Atlanta Streets Alive is back this Sunday!
Atlanta Streets Alive will return to North Highland Avenue for four hours — from 2pm-6pm.
Two miles of North Highland plus one mile of Virginia Avenue plus just about two miles of the brand new Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail means we will have almost FIVE miles of car-free community space to ride, walk, play, dance and rock and roll.
Look for activities all along the route including local acoustic musicians, a capella groups, marching bands, alongside classes such as salsa dancing, yoga, zumba and thousands of people out riding their bikes.

Jack UPDATE!
It is with great sadness that I report to all of our fellow Jack lovers that our little man has cancer. Unfortunately, due to the location of the cancer (under his tongue) there aren't many feasible options. He will be on anti-inflammatory shots to help ease pain and help with his difficulty eating but it is only a matter of time before the cancer spreads and he will no longer be able to eat. Jack has had a wonderful life full of love and we will continue to love him with all of our hearts and do everything we can to make him comfortable. Thank you to all of you for your support and the love you have sent to this special cat. We are still taking donations at The Cat Doctor to help with the remaining balance and to pay for the shots he will need in the coming weeks. You can make a donation by calling 404-257-0048.

First off, we want to thank everyone that has sent love to us and those of you who have made donations to The Cat Doctor on Jack's behalf. Tomorrow this guy will go back to the vet to have oral surgery. Please send positive thoughts and well wishes our way. We will know more after tomorrow and will post another update. In the meantime, we are still asking for any help from our friends. You can make a donation by calling The Cat Doctor at 404-257-0048. Nothing is too little to donate. Thank you again!

Jack needs your help!
Hello! My name is Jack. Many of you already know me and come to visit me on a regular basis at The Highland Inn. There are some things going on with my health and I am in need of medical care. My owner is an employee here at the inn and is asking for any help you may be able to extend on my behalf. If you would like to make a donation so I can get the care I need that would be so appreciated. All donations can be made to The Cat Doctor in Buckhead by calling and letting them know you want to donate for Jack the cat of The Highland Inn. Hopefully I'll be feeling much better soon and will see you around the hotel. That's all for meow, I'll keep you posted.
xo, Jack

Cocktail Hour?
On vacation? Here on business? Student? Let's face it, we all need a drink. Here are some spots to grab a cocktail within stumbling distance to the hotel.....
- Cafe 640 - right next door! Try the Grapefruit Rosewater Martini, you won't be sorry.
- Pura Vida - walk out our front door, turn left and walk two doors down. Enough said.
- 4th & Swift - modern comfort food and original cocktails with names like John Chapman? We're sold. You should be too.
- Victory Sandwich followed by Dad's Garage - sandwiches, drinks and improv? win-win-win!
- The Porter - a must for beer lovers and single ladies
- Wrecking Bar - picked the best brewpub in Atlanta 2011
- Sotto Sotto - for the wino in all of us
- Krog Bar - anything Kevin Rathbun touches is gold so, you know, just go.
If you aren't in the mood to hang out in a bar or if you just want to lounge around in your room and have a few, you can pick something up here:
- Buddy's - they have a wonderful wine and beer selection for a gas station. No, really! Right on the corner of N Highland & North Ave
- Green's - they have everything! Beer, wine, liquor, etc. 737 Ponce De Leon
- Savi Urban Market - you can grab dinner and drinks at this fancy little market.
- Publix Supermarket - the usual grocery store selection but this is going to be the closest of the four mentioned.
Lastly, you can combine tourism, education and drinking all in one by visiting Sweetwater and taking the brewery tour. We're just saying.
